ABOUT

Gallery ETHER is a cultural space in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. True to its Korean name — "slowly, together" — it pursues "Art as Part of Everyday Life," keeping art close to daily life. ETHER explores the boundary between contemporary art and craft, making exhibitions that record not only an artist's work but their life and narrative.

갤러리 이서(ETHER)는 서울 성수동에 자리한 복합문화공간이다. '천천히, 함께'라는 이름의 뜻처럼, 일상 속의 예술을 지향하며 예술을 일상 가까이 둔다. 동시대 미술과 공예의 경계를 탐구하고, 작가의 작업뿐 아니라 그들의 삶과 서사를 함께 기록하는 전시를 만든다.

Owner & Director

Seungjun Seo

Seo Seung-jun is the Owner & Director of Gallery ETHER. After some 20 years as a theater actor, musical director and advertising art director, burnout led him to Hawaii, where he first touched clay; he went on to study ceramics in Asheville, USA, expanding into installation and sculpture. Rather than confining ceramics to craft, he treats it as a contemporary-art language for exploring matter, time and relation. He leads ETHER as a space that records not only an artist's work but their life and story.

서승준은 갤러리 이서의 대표이자 디렉터다. 연극배우와 뮤지컬 감독, TV 광고 아트디렉터로 20여 년을 보낸 뒤 탈진을 계기로 하와이에서 처음 흙을 만났고, 미국 애슈빌에서 도자를 공부하며 설치와 조각으로 작업을 확장해왔다. 도자를 공예의 범주에 가두지 않고 물질과 시간, 관계를 탐구하는 동시대 미술의 언어로 다루며, 작가의 작업뿐 아니라 그 삶과 서사를 함께 기록하는 공간으로 이서를 이끈다.
